Experience the Sahara with Nomads

September 10th to 17rd, 2025

About the trip

Join me for an unforgettable trekking adventure, walking side by side with desert nomads in the heart of the Sahara. More than just a journey, this is a chance to step into their world—where the rhythm of life follows the sun, and wisdom is passed down through generations.

With each step, you’ll learn from them: how to navigate the dunes, read the desert’s secrets, and embrace the simplicity of a life in harmony with nature. Evenings will be spent under a blanket of stars, sharing stories around the fire, as the silence of the Sahara reveals its magic.

This trek is open to a small group of 6 to 8 people, ensuring an intimate and authentic experience.

Our journey

Day 5

Day 6

Arrival to Marrocco - Night at the hotel.

Driving to M'hamid - 455km - 7h -

Enjoy several stops along the way, including lunch and the stunning Tizi n’Tichka pass in the Atlas Mountains.

Pass through Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of the desert," before heading to the dunes.

Spend the night at an eco-friendly camp under the stars, with comfortable rooms, private bathrooms, and electricity to recharge your devices!

The Draa Valley divides M’hamid Sahara into two parts: the remote eastern dunes of Erg Zahar and Erg Smar and the lush western side where Erg Chegaga lies. Our three-day trek takes us from the oasis, where golden dunes meet palm groves, to the remote Erg Smar dunes.

We begin as a nomadic caravan, leaving the oasis behind.

Crossing the salty valley—once the old Draa River—we enter a vast, rocky plateau. Along the way, we’ll pass the ruins of Oulad Zbiir, where traces of ancient civilizations remain.

After hours of hiking through the Sidi Naji region, we’ll stop for a peaceful lunch under tamarisk trees. A final stretch of walking brings us to our campsite, nestled between golden dunes with breathtaking views.

Today's journey takes us to the remote and stunning Zahar Dune. After loading the camels, we’ll cross vast, endless flats, immersing ourselves in the solitude of the Sahara.

Along the way, we’ll visit “The Eye of the Chased Gazelle,” once a bustling nomadic market. Here, you can explore the ruins of an old ksar, trace ancient water channels, and uncover remnants of nomadic life. The towering dunes of Zahar will appear deceptively close, but patience is key. Upon arrival, we’ll rest in the shade of Sidi Omar shrine before trekking the rolling dunes for breathtaking panoramic views.

As the sun sets, we’ll camp in a natural basin surrounded by towering dunes. A candlelit carpet awaits atop the next dune for a magical desert experience. After dinner under the stars, we’ll gather by the fire, where the nomads will share their stories.

Our journey continues to the remote Erg Smar, a striking dune blending orange and golden hues. The trek is mesmerizing, taking us from the towering Zahar dunes across the Draa Valley—the longest in Morocco.

We pass through tamarisk forests, ancient farmer houses, and an old wall near Erg Smar, where we refresh ourselves and water the camels. Then, we reach the breathtaking "Two-Colored Dunes", where white and orange sands meet in a surreal landscape.

After lunch and rest, we move deeper into Erg Smar, setting camp among its glowing dunes, where the twilight paints the desert in golden light.

Today, we take a 4×4 transfer from the desert back to the village, a 1h20 journey through stunning desert landscapes.

In M’hamid, we explore the old village, its historic mosque, and traditional kasbahs before heading towards Marrakech.

Along the way, we visit the pottery workshops of Tamgrout, enjoy a scenic stop in Agdez, have lunch at Ait Ben Haddou (a UNESCO site), and take in the breathtaking views from the Tizi n'Tichka pass.

Day 8

The journey comes to an end, but the memories will last a lifetime. After days of adventure, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable experiences, it's time to say goodbye.

Day 7

Take some free time to explore the vibrant streets of Marrakech at your own pace, or simply unwind and soak in the peaceful atmosphere of your riad.
