A journey through time

El Torcal's history dates back 200 million years, when the region was submerged underwater. Tectonic plate movements during the Tertiary era pushed this mountain range upwards, and subsequent karstic erosion, shaped by water, ice, and wind, created the surreal landscape we see today. For a deeper understanding, consider a guided tour.

Hiking trails at El Torcal de Antequera

  • Green Route (1.5 km, 45 min): A short, circular route perfect for a quick overview of the park's formations, starting and ending at the visitor center.

  • Yellow Route (3 km, 2 hrs): Another circular route from the visitor center, showcasing unique rock formations and ancient trees.

  • Orange Route (7 km, 4 hrs): A longer, one-way trail (3.5 km each way) between the lower and upper car parks, requiring more time and potentially a guide.

We opted for the Green Route, allowing us to experience El Torcal's beauty within a short timeframe, before heading to El Chorro.
