The secrets of Petra

Petra, Jordan

Two days in Petra and something about it felt unreal. Knowing that this entire city was carved into the rock more than 2,000 years ago by the Nabataeans made it even more surreal.

I did the long hike to the Ad Deir. The heat, the silence...and when I finally got there, it felt magical. Bigger, quieter, and somehow even more powerful than I expected. It once may have been used for religious gatherings, which somehow matched the peaceful energy I felt sitting there.

The second day, I woke up early and walked through the Siq, the narrow canyon that was once the main entrance to the city. When I reached the Al Khazneh, the sun was just starting to hit the stone. This iconic façade, likely built as a royal tomb, still holds mysteries today. For some time, it was empty and I just stood there, taking it in. It didn’t feel like just a monument, it felt alive in a strange, calm way.

The energy there stayed with me. It wasn’t just what I saw, it was how I felt the whole time.
